About:

  • Tomoe River (Tomoegawa) paper can be difficult to source due to is popularity. It is a deceptively fragile, thin and high-quality paper resistant to bleeding and feathering. It is particularly partial to fountain pen writing, leaving immaculate lines.
  • Amate: This traditional bark paper dates back to pre-Columbian and Meso-American times and is still handmade by the Otomi Indian artisans of Mexico using the same methods of their Meso-american ancestors from 3000 years ago. Amate Bark Paper has been used through the ages to record religious and official legal texts and as a canvas for painting. I believe it has been instances of Aztec calendars painted on Amate but do not quote me on this! It is made from Amate, Nettle, and Mulberry trees, which results in a unique yet tough texture.
